Hello everybody. I guess by now you have all read the story that appeared on TMZ about a week ago. If not, you can read the story here.

Now I know we have all been waiting for news like this, but before we get our hopes up, it is very important to remember something. No matter what David Hasselhoff says, the exclusive rights to the Knight Rider franchise do not belong to him. Therefore he cannot decide wether or not Knight Rider will return in any shape or form.

The exclusive rights to the franchise belong to Universal and no one else. They, and they alone can decide wether or not Knight Rider will return, on tv or the big screen. The Hasselhoff story has been shared many times over already and a lot of rumours and stories are going around, but nothing has been confirmed so far.

The 2008 reboot was a short lived one, but at least it was a good try. Lets all keep our hopes up for more in the future, but please get your news from reliable sources.

The last few days have been special to us all. It seems that a new digital version of Knight Rider is in the making and will be available in 2017. More details to follow soon, but here is the official press release:

"That Justin Lin sure does like fast cars. After directing four films in the Fast and the Furious franchise, he recently signed on to direct a Hot Wheels movie. But clearly that wasn’t enough. Now, he’s taking on another iconic pop culture automobile, in yet another reboot of the iconic ’80s series Knight Rider. But this reboot won’t be a movie or a TV show—it’s going to be a digital series instead.

Lin’s company YOMYOMF (which stands for “YouOffendMeYouOffendMyFamily”) is partnering up with Machinima, the first global many2many programming service focusing on fandom and gamer culture, together with NBC Universal Brand Development to produce this new digital reboot of the ’80s NBC television series. YOMYOMF and Lin will produce the new digital series that is in active development for a potential 2017 launch date. No word yet on the involvement of original star David Hasselhoff, but c’mon…it’s not really Knight Rider without the Hoff, right?

Machinima’s CEO Chad Gutstein released a statement saying, “Knight Rider is an iconic franchise whose concepts of AI and autonomous vehicles were science fiction in the 1980s and are now science fact. Justin is one of the leading storytellers of his generation and we couldn’t be more excited to work with him on re-invigorating Knight Rider for a new generation of fans.”

The original series ran from 1982-86, and centered around Michael Knight, a high-tech modern crime fighter assisted by KITT, “an advanced artificially intelligent, self-aware and nearly indestructible car.” After the show was canceled, several Knight Rider TV movies followed in the ’90s, and in 2008 a TV reboot aired on NBC, but it only lasted 13 episodes. The original theme song remains super iconic, mostly due to it being sampled by hip hop and EDM artists ad nauseam for over 30 years.

Are you excited for another version of KITT hitting the highways? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below."

As we all know there has been a long talk of a Knight Rider movie. Even Glen Larson talked about it before he sadly passed away. What is not commonly known is that Nick Nugent, the man that gave us The Knight Rider Companion and has been a long time fan of the series, worked together with Glen Larson on the movie. Script ideas, concept drawings and so on. Great work ofcourse.

And now for the first time ever, Nick is talking about his work with Glen in a series of exclusive interviews with the site Park Your Buses. You can find part 1 here and part 2 here. All in all there will be 6 articles in total. We learn much about what the new K.I.T.T. would look like, what the story would be like and so on. A great read, and we thank Nick Nugent and Park Your Buses very much for telling us all this information. We highly advice all Knight Rider fans to read this....

From the Park Your Buses site:

"Some television ideas resonate with you so much that they become a part of you. Such is the case with me and my favorite television show Knight Rider. For those who grew up in the 80’s, they remember how cool the K.I.T.T car was and how much we all wanted to be Michael Knight, the lone crusader played by the one and only David Hasselhoff. The series ran for four seasons between 1982-1986 and became a huge hit worldwide with a strong and loyal fan following that exists even today. The series had a few spin-offs and television movies like Knight Rider 2000, Team Knight Rider and the 2008 continuation Knight Rider: The Series. Knight Rider creator, the late great Glen A. Larson, wished to make a feature film and we heard several reports for over a decade in which the film went through development hell. Will it ever be made? We don’t know that yet, but we do know one thing. One of Larson’s close associates, Nick Nugent, took time out of his busy schedule to speak to Park Your Buses exclusively about Larson’s recently unknown film project and its current status. Knight Rider fans, get ready for a wild ride. Everything you ever wanted to know will be revealed right here! So without further ado, lets get the turbine spinning and activate auto cruise to pursuit mode. It’s finally time to take a look under K.I.T.T’s newest hood!"
